New Kilt for Christmas, and I have a question about it.
My parents were kind enough to get me a Stillwater Kilts standard kilt. I love it, but I'm wondering, am I supposed to take off this thick piece of white thread near the bottom that seems to keep the pleat shut? I know they are supposed to be sewn down near the top, but this just seems odd to me.

Yes, those are the basting stitches used to keep the pleats neat during shipping. They need to be removed.
DO NOT YANK THE THREAD OUT!!!!!
Carefully cut the thread and gently pull them out one or two at a time without snagging or damaging the fabric.

Yeah, what he said. Basting stitches. Cut them and carefully remove them. They're just there for manufacture and shipping, to keep the pleats straight until you wear it.
