    Non-traditional Sporrans

I guess a sporran is redundant with pocketed contemporary kilts but I'd like to make a nod to the tradition and frankly I prefer the look. I'm looking for something to wear when my 5.11 TDK arrives after a long summer of waiting.

I'm considering SWK's nylon sporran but am interested in other's opinions and ideas. In the 5.11 video the model looks like he's wearing a black nylon molle pouch of some sort.

    Thoughts?

I purchased one of the black nylon SWK sporrans myself, specifically with the 5.11 kilt in mind. Where the 5.11 video showed the molle pouch tied to the D-rings of the kilt with paracord, I opted for a couple brass double-ended snap clips.

I suspect the 5.11 crew simply grabbed a molle pouch from their own product line (after all, the "TDK" was meant to be a joke, so likely not worth buying an actual sporran for the video).

Given the styling details of the TDK, and the "intended" market (the tactical/tacti-cool crowd), I have difficulty picturing a sporran not styled for that same audience, working very well with the TDK. I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm just saying I can't picture it.

As for the jonesing, I agree. I ordered 3 TDK kilts, one in each color. It'll be a long summer.

I'd go for the SWK Nightstalker Sporran myself. I think it would go great with the 5.11 kilt.

Can't go wrong with a Nightstalker sporran.

You could also try something like the Spec-Ops "pocket organizer" http://www.amazon.com/Spec-Ops-Brand...7139500&sr=8-1

Or a Fox utility pouch https://www.foxoutdoor.com/ItemDetai...d=105&cscid=50

I actually have a couple of those Fox utility pouches to hold sharp tools for my deployment pack (gotta have a way to get them around TSA to my destination, checked baggage works), and I don't think those perticular pouches would work well for a sporran. They just aren't quite the right shape. Of their products, either of these would likely be better. https://www.foxoutdoor.com/ItemDetai...id=2&cscid=802 https://www.foxoutdoor.com/ItemDetai...105&cscid=1015

I use a plain old jansport smallish fanny pack-black. They're cheap, maybe twelve bucks.

I'm waiting for three 5.11 TDKs myself, and I understand the jonesing...

On the positive side of the equation, my Stillwater Nightstalker arrived today and I'm very pleased with it. The construction is first rate - it's definitely built to last - and it looks good. The rear padding is a bit stiffer than I'd ideally prefer, but overall it's a great blending of the "tactical" look (nylon, black zipper pulls, etc.) with something that's recognizably a sporran. I'll have to wait (^%# it!) and see, but I think that it'll give a more finished look to the TDK than using a 5.11 tactical pouch or something similar, while still maintaining the contemporary, "tactical" look.

Personally, I like of the look of my Raccoon Full Make with utility kilts. Its certainly not rugged or a "tactical" though.

Actually, Knotty, given the number of people who will pay extra for anything with the word "tactical" in the title, you might have found a niche for a new product - the Official, High Speed, Low Drag, XMTS-Approved, Tactical, Full Mask, Raccoon Sporran!

I can see the advertising now: An announcer with a deep, masculine voice says the product name loud and fast, like the typical used car commercial, while the accompanying action video shows a muscular cop drawing a handgun from the raccoon, uh, I mean sporran...

Do you think we can get Sam Elliot to do the voice over?
