    pilling

    Hi all.
I have a 4 yard Bear kilt in the Maple leaf tartan. Although it is a bit short (Did I measure wrong?), I love the Kilt. I wear it a little lower then my jeans to get to my mid knee cap... Anyway I have some pilling in the PV fabric where my belt goes and where my sporran hits.
Do you know of a way to depill (unpill?) the PV fabric? Are there little fabric sandpaper things out there?

Thanks all... great forum... I been lurking for a bit.

They make a kind of shaver for sweaters. You might get one of those. They do work pretty well. My wifes is battery operated.

    Hi Atticus,
I love the Canadian tartans but they do tend to pill more than the clan tartans.
I agree with Bubba. Those battery operated de-pillers work. They work slowly, though. I experimented with several methods and found that sticking duct tape on the pilled area and yanking it off works much faster.
(Like a woman waxing her legs, but less painful.)

Nice to hear you're wearing your kilt enough to cause it to pill!

Hi: I am new to this forum as a member but have been reading the posts and replys for quite some time.
This one here is interesting because I too have been
the victim of pilling of many items of clothing. I
fully agree with Bubba - use an electric shaver battery or AC operated; best with a popup trimmer. Just extend the popup trimmer and gently drag it across the pills. Another thing you could do is use a multi bladed razor and do the same thing; just ever so carefully slide it across the pilling surface. I remember seeing a pilling razor in a catalog many years ago. Was just like an electric
shaver except the holes in the foil were much larger.
A note of caution just make sure that what you are
cutting is pilling and not a snag or loop of thread.
Cut these and the fabric will unravel before your eyes.
Thanks for the opportunity to offer some help!
Good golly there is an awful lot of stuff here and
    some mighty fine members!

Hi R.M. and welcome aboard. You are right, this place is something else. I am blurry-eyed from reading all of the archived posts. (And crunching budget numbers on my calculator to see what I can and cannot afford to purchase! )

I will soften your learning curve around here. If you have a question, just ask.. Everybody is more than helpful.

    Peace,
    Mike

    GMan,
The avatar was made with my Tablet PC. Not only have I given up pants (I still sorta gotta wear them at work ), but I have sworn off keyboards as well.

I just set up my gallery...Only got Pics of my USA Kilt so far but I'll post my Bear Kilt soon.

    Welcome, Welcome, Atticus and RM!

No keyboards and no pants make Atticus something something...

And it's pretty ballsy to try shaving your kilt with a razor, RM. I'm impressed.
