rant against UK
I bought a denium cut UK I am not satisfied with it. When I tried to send it back and replace it with a black mocker, the rep said no problem. Then he failed to give me the information on how to return it. So I had to call him again to get an RMA nr. So not knowing any better I washed the kilt. And when UK recieved it, I got a call that I should not have washed it.
The rep failed to give me this bit of info. So now I have the kilt again and I had to pay for its return. So I will not be buying any kilts from them ever again! And I think their customer service is terrible. I think that their reps in the return dept need to have a script in front of them to avoid any miscommunication and not give out any bits of info a little at a time.

Sorry but sounds like a mixed bag.
Some fault on them. Some on you.

Yeah, I'm with Larry on this one. The rep probably should have better informed you. But the info is available on their site.
From the UK FAQ:
EXCHANGES and REPAIR?
We accept exchanges of new, unworn and unwashed kilts, within 30 days of purchase. Exchanges are subject to a restocking fee. Customer is responsible for shipping to and from The Utilikilts Company RMA Department.

I thought that it is a common sence that you don't wash the clothes that you intend to return to the shop. It is your fault, dude, and don't blame anyone.

I have to agree. You wouldn't wash a t-shirt you got from the mall before returning it, so why would you wash the kilt? Doesn't seem like a mistake on the part of the rep at UK. He/she probably assumed you knew better. It's just common sense.
And, not getting your way doesn't constitute bad customer service. Not every company can be Walmart with a no-questions-asked policy.
Can I ask why you were dissatisfied with the denim kilt in the first place?

You may be able to recover some of your money by putting it up for sale, perhaps next time you should read the stated return policy before taking action.

While I actually agree that UK customer service does not always have the greatest reputation (and I am UK wearer), I can't help but note that in this thread you describe buying a denim cut UK at their Seattle store back in June, and apparently wearing it out and about. If this is the same kilt, IMO you can't fault them for not accepting it for return unless there was some manufacturing defect that you couldn't discover when you bought it.
Best regards,
Jake

yes, and funny how it went from 'nice folks at UK' in the original post to this 'never buy from them again' rant.
Specially when common sense dictates you return the merchandise as is, not washed!

It is wise to use much discretion on such a public forum when complaining about a company so dear to so many here. I advise putting it up for sale. You're welcome to use the forum. But I still feel sorry you had a bad experience.

I agree - selling the kilt would probably be the best solution.
I myself have had a very good experience with UK customer service - I returned a kilt that had defective snaps, and they sent me a new kilt (even in a different size, as my original one was a bit large). I was impressed.
