Sportkilt and pleats......
A long long time ago I purchased a Sportkilt. This was also long before joining this site and recieving a truck load of information about kilts.
My one complaint about the Kilt is the pleats. Actually the lack of neat, crisp pleats. I understand now about yards, oz. and matireal but that doesn't fix my poor old Sportkilt. Has anyone tried starching the Sportkilt so that the pleats stay crisp longer? Can you do that with the material? Also there was talk of extending the stiching... would this help me out? I am unable at this time to purchase another Kilt but when I am ready I will certainly know what to look for
Thanks everybody.

I don't starch anything. Over time, that destroys the fibers of the material. Try sewing down the pleats to the hip, that might help. Do you have a cotton or a poly cotton blend. I have the cotton and have the same problem. A friend of mine has the blend and the pleats hold alot better.
Cheers,

My kilt is a blend and i am considering the sewing option. I know this came up before but I forget what was the outcome
TO SEW OR NOT TO SEW ?

Yo "Chucker"...
We used to distribute for SportKilt a long time ago, and would NOT let any go out without first sewing down the pleats and adding belt loops. I know that didn't help with the pleat depth, but it did keep them looking a whole lot sharper!
If you need it done, you can send it to me... along with $14, and I'll do it for you (that includes shipping back to you).

pleats
Good grief, bargain, don't know how you could make a living at that Jimmy. It cost me that to have one kilt dry cleaned!!!

If you think about it, sewing down the pleats and adding belt loops will only lessen the times that you need to dry clean it too! When the pleats are sewn-down, you can shove the kilt in a washer (gentle cycle) and just hang-dry it. The pleats will fall right back into place with the sewing. It's a good thing. (Hope Martha Stewart doesn't sue me for using that line)
I used to have two SportKilts (LONG ago) and had teh "permanent pleats" on them... along with the belt loops. It's MUCH better look, and makes them actually appear more authentic.

I'll still email you on the specs, but it would take about 20 minutes to sew-down the pleats, and another 10 to manufacture the belt loops and get them on.
After that, you'll have an entirely different kilt!
Now... go get a cool belt, a good sporran, a tough buckle, and you're ready to go again! 8)
