Wax cotton kilts, kilt aprons, and jackets
Has anyone come across wax cotton kilt accessories? It occured to me the other day that a wax cotton kilt apron would be ideal protection for wet weather and then that I'd never seen wax cotton kilt jackets... though I seem to recall a wax cotton blouson which would probably do. And then, of course, the natural progression - a wax cotton kilt!
Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks, Graham.

I played around with the idea of waterproofing my Buzz Kidder pleated-canvas man-skirt, but... I think it would be too stiff afterward.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Try the House of Bruar. They are not really a kilt and are not really for wearing over the kilt, more as a far, far better idea than waterproof trousers. We use them a lot out shooting. The outer is waxed cotten the inside is lined.I cannot recommend these too highly.

Those are very useful, Jock. Our huntsman and kennel huntsman wear them when mucking around kennels on wet and sloppy days, and when out exercising hounds. I've worn one with the kilt before...works very well, especially when wet and muddy beagle jump up on you.
Does Bruar still make them? I haven't noticed them in the online catalogue recently.

Wore Filson jackets in the mines as a boy. Aside from the "funny" smell of waxed cotton I'm wondering how the wax would hold on the knife point of the pleats...would guess it'd not hold due to the sharp turn back.
Better to just get a cape to cover all in foul weather. For work protection, maybe a waxed cotton kilt apron. No clue if anyone's making them.

They don't seem to star in their catalogue these days, but I bought six last autumn when I visited the shop. I use them as a "thank you" when I shoot with friends, particularly down in England where they are still struggling with those awful waterproof trousers.
