    Gordon small sett

I have a length, double width, of Gordon Modern with about a three-inch sett size. It's Marton Mills P/V. There's enough for a kilt, but I can't figure out how to pleat such a small sett. Any suggestions.

Also, I'm thinking this might be better used for trews and waistcoat. Thoughts?

You could put two setts into each pleat, if you are pleating to the sett, or use alternate stripes if you are pleating to the stripe - effectively doubling the sett size.

I think it sounds like a good bet for trews and a waistcoat - good fabric for it, and a nice small sett size.

If you decide to do a kilt from it, just do what Anne suggested. Lay it out like a regular kilt but pick up your pleat elements once every two setts or even every three setts. That will make pleats with depth equivalent to that of a 6" or 9" sett and allow you to use all your tartan in the kilt.
