    need help with aprons

I am using the directions off of this site http://users.tinyonline.co.uk/chegc/kiltsite/page2.htm and I am having a hard time understanding how to do both of the aprons especially the part about side hem and fringe. If anyone could help me understand this it would be great. A picture would be awesome but maybe asking too much.
    Thanks

    Hi Bjordnolf

Trad kilts are tough to make properly from instructions that are as short as the ones on the web site that you refer to. If you are interested in more extensive instructions and you don't know about it already, you might check out (ummm, ahhh) my book, The Art of Kiltmaking (http://www.celticdragonpress.com), which has all the gory details. It doesn't cost much, and many of the guys in Barb's Posse here on this forum have successfully made fine kilts from the instructions.

    Cheers!

    Barb

I ordered Barb's book, I was already interested in it from information found on the internet, but after I saw comments here on XMarks, I decided it was needed before I start to attempt my first kilt.

It's great to have a resource like Barb available to help us understand what we are attempting.

My only problem is, I ordered the book, but my wife is holding it as a Christmas present, so I am rather anxious to open it.

Read other posts here, and we all (those that can anyway) will help, but those that may not be able to help directly, can help with encouraging words!

Bjordnolf, what specifically are you having a problem with? The underapron is fairly straightforward, and since it is not seen, just hem the vertical edge, and also hem it on the bottom edge slightly starting near the deep pleat on the left side to insure it does not hang below the front apron. The front apron will not be hemmed on the bottom (if it has acceptable selvedge, and the edge is fringed. The SWK I am wearing right now has the edge of the over apron frayed/fringed, then there is a matching piece of material also fringed/frayed that is sewn to the under side of the overapron such that the pattern matches and the fringe on that piece extends past the fringe on the apron itself. Don't have a camera here or I would post a pic.

Hold on tight. The "real" job, the new venture with the investment company, Barleyjuice (and the fact that we're recording our third CD) and the kilt orders that I have are all interfering with the website construction. It's building... but just not at the pace that all would like. Sorry about that.:-?

Keep working as your schedule allows, Jimmy, I'm sure that the wait will be worth it.
