    Big Question About "Jones"?

I ordered my first, but hopefully not my last, USA kilt last week of friday. 5 yaard wool Celtic Nation. I have been spending hours after work, and a few at work during lunch, reading notes from you all. Now I have a question: eveyone talks about "jonesing" or "jones." I have guess that the term refers to waiting for the arrival of kilts or other accessories. But how did that term come to mean that? Or, am I totally wrong on the meaning?

Whatever the meaning, I feel like a kid waiting for my brithday to finally arrive. And it is sill half a year away. LOL

    Thanks, Tom

    Enjoy that new kilt.
I, too, have a 5-yard wool Celtic Nations. It is a fabulous kilt that has attracted many compliments. Rocky and crew do excellent work.

I didn't have too much a of a "jones" with that one. I had visited the USA Kilts Store and had it measured right there - so, of course, I also bought a Casual (American Heritage) off the rack - and had something to take (wear) home.

If you are too busy to laugh, you are too busy.

    Carlo and Couper,

Thanks to both of you for your help. I still feel like my birthday is too far away (it is in January after all). Hope I can wear the kilt to the family get together.

By the way, being a past college level history professor, I do normally type and spell better than I did in the last message. Sorry for not taking time to reread. I must slow down my thinking to keep pace with my typing. LOL

I hope both of you gentlemen, and everyone else here in X Marks the Scot, a great week ahead.

    Thanks, Tom

P.S. Just out of curiosity, I hope it is not an issue that my family background is more Welsh than Scottish. I know the Welsh did not wear kilts until very recent times, but I do think that a kilt is really, really snazzy!!!! Again, have a good week, everyone.

The New Oxford American Dictionary has “Origin 1960’s: said to come from Jones Alley, in Manhattan, associated with drug addicts.”

Tom, it's great to have you here.
My family is Swiss further back than Switzerland actually exists and I'm still here.
Kilts are great and that's why we are here.

No problem with being of Welsh descent. No one here will care what your heritage is, where you live, what language you speak, or anything related. Anyone can wear and enjoy the kilt.

My surname is Lloyd, which is about this most Welsh-looking name you can get this side of Llewellyn. I have genetic links to a number of different Scottish clans, too, but the name I hold is most assuredly Welsh. Kilt on!

Also, Celtic Nations is a great tartan. I have a Semi-Traditional in it (and, from what I remember Rocky telling me, only the second kilt made in the tartan) and wear it nearly as much as my other 4 combined. Also love the way mine is pleated: it looked rather muted from behind...until the pleats open up to show the bright red.

I am about to buy a Celtic Nations Casual kilt from Rocky. Celtic Nations is a good fit for me since I have ancestry from at least 4 of the Celtic Nations.
