Box pleats?

A question for Rocky and the crew at USA Kilts. Will you ever offer a 4-yard box pleat option? It seems as if only a few kiltmakers offer this as an option, and while they don't have the swish of knife-peats, I really like the way they lay.

I just HAPPEN to be working on one today... MacArthur Modern. Retail price for a box pleated 4 yard kilt is $360 - $400 (depending on tartan / mill chosen). We don't advertise them on our site, but you can call the order in.

My favourite kilt for hot weather or travel is a 4 yd box pleat edge stitched PV kilt made by a kilt maker no longer active here . I too would like to see this offered by one of our advertisers here as a casual kilt option.

I am TOTALLY with Liam on this one. I own more Box pleated kilts than knife pleated kilts (in wool) and really like them. Never once, has anyone said to me anything outside of this forum about Box vs Knife pleated. It has been universally recognized as a kilt.

I am really, glad Rocky that you are making Box Pleats. I will be interested in your response on PV I have heard some people say it is too light weight for Box pleating.

PV, in my opinion, would be a bit lighter than I'd like to see for our box pleats. At this point, we're going to stick to wool 4 yard box pleated kilts.

Which is why I had the pleats edge stitched.

Living in hot and humid North Texas, I was concerned that 16 oz wool would be too heavy, but my 5-yard 16 oz kilts are perfectly comfortable and I have always been a great one for complaining about the heat (mea culpa). After I got that first wool kilt, I didn't think I would ever get another PV; I suppose it could happen, but wool seems like the ultimate textile to me.

Actually, in the heat a kilt isn't the issue, it is generally the wool kilt hose, the wool waist coat and jacket, and skill the balmoral, wear a Tilley or equivalent. However I stand by my custom built PV box pleat as the most comfortable in hot weather....

I have found that to be true as well: wool hose, no matter how lightweight they may be, can be make one very uncomfortable in temperatures above 26 C/80 F. I wish there were more options for cotton hose.
