Can I get a 5yd traditional made with my wool?
I have a friend who has a 5yd piece of the Albannach tartan in wool. I'm thinking of taking it off his hands but I really want a modern kilt made from it. I have far too many critters in my house to be able to belt on a full plaid without looking like I got assaulted by a pack of dogs on the way.
Does anyone know if USA Kilts will make me a 5 yd kilt from it? If so, what would be the price for the build?
Thanks!

I love the Albanach tartan and wish I could get that tartan in wool to make a kilt for myself.
If I could buy the wool from you, you could put the money towards a modern kilt from USA kilts.
Yes??

Well, the wool belongs to a friend of mine but I believe he has several of them available. I believe he said he arranged the run through Rocky of USAKilts. I can get more detail, (mill and weight etc.) if you're interested.

Is the width 27 in. or 54 in.? If 54, it would be more than enough for a traditional kilt.

If it is 5 yards of single width, and not double, you can have a splendid box pleated kilt made.

I'd be very thankful if you could tell me the mill, weight, tartan width and cost. I'm hoping to get 2.5 yards, if it's double width, or 5 yards if it's single width. I want to make a kilt-skirt for myself, if your friend is willing.
By the way, I'm a professional kiltmaker (lower banner ad). I make knife pleated kilts using 5 - 8 yards and box pleated kilts using 4 - 5 yards.

I'm a bit of 2 minds on this one:
1) As a standard operating procedure, we (USA Kilts) do NOT make kilts from customer supplied fabric. We only make kilts from fabric we source. This has to do with quality assurance issues, quality of cloth issues, and whatnot as it's ultimately our name / reputation on the tag.
2) That being said, we DID source the cloth, we just sold it in pieces to individuals. We did 2 runs of the Albannach tartan in wool. The first was from Lochcarron in 13 oz and the second was from Marton Mills in 13 oz.
3) Even though we DID source the cloth, it's been owned by an individual for over 2 years (and potentially as old as 5 years). If the person who owned it has used it for wearing as a great kilt, then we'd prefer not to sew it into a kilt since the cloth has been "used".
Ultimately, I think we're going to have to give this one a pass. There may be other kilt makers out there who would be willing to make a kilt from it, though I appreciate you checking with us first. You may be able to make a deal with Bonnie to make the kilt (donating her labor) in exchange for giving her some cloth. Just a thought.
