    County Crest Tartans

The first of the "tweeks" has come through in the County Crest Tartans as woven by Marton Mills. Below is the County Crest Clare tartan. The one on the LEFT is the original run with a very vibrant blue color. The one on the right is the "new and improved" County Crest Clare. The colors were toned down. Can't wait to see the improvements to the rest of the collection!

Oooh I donno, I kinda like the one on the left...that is part of the appeal of the county/county crest tartans of Ireland to me.

    To each their own.

The one issue that has been consistently voiced (dozens if not hundreds of times) by customers and kiltmakers about the Irish County Crest collection is that many have very 'bold' colors that don't blend well together with other colors in the same tartan. What we did with the mill was took the ones who didn't sell very well (who we also thought to be a bit too bold) and toned them down a bit.

In the instance above, the original run of the tartan has a "muted / weathered" gold, a "muted / weathered" red and a reasonably bright blue. The basic change was to make the blue a more "muted / weathered" blue to get in line with the other colors in the tartan.

Very much like the more subtle colorways. Can't wait to see the rest of the collection!

The beauty of tartan is there is something for everyone

Count me in as one that likes the original bolder colors. I would not even consider the "new & improved" version.
