    First USAK Kilt Ordered

I've had nothing but great experiences with vendor partners of Xmarks, so now I've decided to check out USAK. This being Memorial Day Weekend, yesterday I was out and about in my Stillwater Heavyweight wool kilt in Leatherneck tartan, and I realized a couple of things.

First, my experience with a pair of kilts from another vendor here have shown me that I'm perfectly fine with lower-yardage kilts but now am sort of soured on any not made to measure. Second, I don't really like a fabric weight of less than 16-oz.

So, deciding to stick with family tartans, I just pulled the trigger on a 5-yard USAK wool kilt in 16 oz. Douglas Grey Modern from Marton Mills.

Crossing my fingers. . .wish me luck!

You will be happy. No doubt. I am with you on the made to measure piece, for certain that is the only way to go!

Dale: Good luck. But, given USA Kilts' track record, I don't think you have too much to worry about.

Now you only have to the face the Jonesing. And, if you pressed the "Yes Rush" button, you'll be in high cotton (er, wool) by Independence Day.

That should be a great tartan for those foggy west-coast days. Looking forward to the pics.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

And of course I did exactly that. The jones is inevitable, but I saw no reason to prolong it unnecessarily.

I own a premier made by Rocky and company. If the 5-yard is anything like the 8-yard (and I'm sure it is, quality wise) you'll be pleased.

    Hey Dale,

I just got a semi-trad LE Memorial kilt from Rocky, and debuted it yesterday at the TX Scottish Festival.

Compared to the great kilt that I've been wearing for 8 years, I kinda felt a bit naked but, it was really comfortable and obviously well made!

And I can really get used to puttin on a kilt without rollin around on the bed for half an hour!!!

I think my preference would depend on the company!

A couple of days after ordering that one, I also ordered one in US Army tartan. Unfortunately it's not available in 16-oz fabric, but the 13-oz should do well enough for local/informal wear most of the year.
