My First USAK - Oakleigh Semi Traditional Kilt

I went home for lunch today and had a lovely surprise waiting for me at my doorstep. It was my first kilt from USA Kilts! This is a Semi Tradition Kilt in Oakleigh tartan and Poly/Viscous material. I couldn't resist trying it on real quick. I didn't have much time as I had to head back to the office. As one might expect, the kilt hangs much nicer on me than it does on the skirt hangers. As we say, the proof is in the pics:

    Apron

    Pleats

The apron has a nice taper to it and, although it is somewhat hidden in the above image, there is a nice fringe the length of the front apron. The P/V material feels like good quality while being nice and light weight. I really love how the pattern is set in the apron. It really sets off the pleats in the back from the apron in the front. The quality of the materials used seems top notch. I can't wait to get back home and wear it out tonight!

A little back story for anyone who cares
I went to Rocky a short while ago looking to commission a fully bespoke piece in a custom weave. Rocky was great about being patient with me and helping me make sure I provided the correct information. I decided I wanted a more casual kilt as well, so I ordered the kilt you see above at the same time. About a week ago I started getting worried that I had somehow measured incorrectly and called up Rocky. I asked him if he would hold off on stitching my 'tank' and send me the Semi-Trad first so I could put it on and make sure my measurements were correct before continuing with the 'tank.' Rocky assured me that if I followed his simple instructions that I wouldn't have anything to worry about. I just wanted to be sure; you know?

More pics to follow and more input about the garment as I wear it.

    Thanks Rocky & Co.!

    Cheers,
    -J

I really, really like the colors of that tartan. I'm jealous.

I have one in that tartan. It's probably my second favorite.

Good choice going with USAK. You'll be happy with it for a long long time.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

Congrats, cd. I think you've made an excellent choice there.

Here are just a few quick shots we took after getting back from 'drinking practice' I'll try to find a reason soon to dress a bit smart and put them up as well.

cdarwin: Beautiful kilt, nicely worn. Love the colors, too. Thanks for posting the pics. Kind of wish I hadn't seen it. Been itching to get something similar from USA Kilts and this just makes it worse.

I like the look of a kilt without a belt. But, a lot of us old guys wonder how you young guys stay so thin!? But, I weighed 130 lbs. out of high school, so maybe it has something to do with age and consumption. ;)
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I am absolutely loving this kilt. It looks fantastic and is nice and light (which is appropriate for the oppressive heat and humidity we're having here in FL right now). The USA Kilts Semi-Traditional is an exceptional value. Gosh, I really love the colors of this tartan. I can't say enough good things about this kilt!

mookien: I know it will catch up to me sooner rather than later, so I have to balance eating well (but still enjoying food), regular physical activity with appreciating spirits in moderation. Life isn't worth much if you can't enjoy it. Having a group of friends that like rewarding ourselves with malted refreshments after running a good stint doesn't hurt either

You sound like a salesman for Rocky! Quit torturing me. ;)

Sounds like you got your priorities and balance right. Enjoy life while you're young. There are definitely some things that are better when you're old, but not nearly as many. :-)

Assuming one is basically healthy, I believe that drinking in moderation is actually good for you. So, don't overdo it too many times.

By the way, I spent a good deal of time in Florida - born in Miami, high schooled in the Keys (Marathon), and college-credentialed [Certificate of Attendance ;) ] at Florida State, where I also worked for a few years at the Computing Center. My wife and I just got back from a 3 week stay in the Tallahassee, Jasper, Perry, Valdosta area.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
