Pennsylvania tartan in PV Material!
Attention fellow Pennsylvanians! In celebration of Pennsylvania's House Resolution 548 dated January 26, 2012 officially approving the Pennsylvania State Tartan, we obtained permission to weave it in PV material! While it's not live on our site yet, we DO have it in stock and have started taking orders for it in our Casual, Semi Traditional and Mini Kilts. Below you'll find a sneak peak of the cloth which just arrived this morning. If you come see our booth at Celtic Fling this weekend, you can check it out in person!
If you know anyone with Pennsylvania roots who may be interested in this tartan, please let them know. Thanks!

For those interested in the 'government resolution' stuff, here's a link to the resolution itself:

Very nice
Well that's quite handsome Rocky! Did you design it?
I'll have to give it consideration...

No... I can't take credit for that one. Though I WILL say I specifically had it woven in 'muted' colors, not modern or ancient as the Muted color scheme really brings out the balance of the colors in this tartan.

That tartan was designed by William Johnston in 1992. The original samples, I believe were woven by Peter MacDonald (Peter, can you confirm?) in colors not too dissimilar from what you have chosen for this weave, Rocky.
Here's a scan from a hand woven sample in the Scottish Tartans Museum.

Matt... According to the STA and Tartan Register, it was designed in 1992 by Mr. Jonston. Notes from STA:
Designed and copyrighted by the late Wm.H. Johnston 1992. Registered with theTECAon 10 March 1993. Based on the Black Watch which served at the Battle of Bushy Run, near Pittsburgh, in 1763, thus assuring western Pennsylvania and the 'Ohio Country' for Great Britain. 'Tartans' (Johnston/Smith 1999) states (Page 109) that this is the State Tartan. Sample in Scottish Tartans Authority's Johnston Collection. Johnston's book has a serious error in that the threadcount for the second pivot is given as R/4 whereas in reality it is B/4. The Sheepskin Shop in Ebensburg PA that markets blankets in the tartan has obviously used that threadcount from the book.

Will this be a stock item (being in PA and all ), or an occasional or once and done deal?

You are correct, it is 1992, not 2002, that was my error.
There are an awful lot of errors in the Tartans series by Smith/Johnston, both in thread counts and in the accompanying illustrations for many tartans. Phil Smith himself admitted as much to me once. As you can see from my post, above, it's easy to make a numerical error without thinking about it!

We'll have to see how the initial batch moves. We have 300 M coming (only the first bolt has arrived... the other 3 are on their way). Based on how popular it is, we may continue to stock it.

You HAVE to keep it in stock! My piggy bank has some growing to do! Right now, I can only afford a mini kilt (and believe me, if I wore one, it would take three weeks and a pick-axe for you to get THAT picture out of your head!)

I'm working on the wife's resolve right now. You don't want to know what I've promised so far, it aint pretty.
