"If you’re going to talk the talk, you’ve got to walk the walk"
Back before we had access to any "regular" source for tartan, we had to get what we could, from where we could (even if it wasn't an "official" tartan). We were contracted by an AOH (Ancient Order of Hibernians... sort of an "Irish Brotherhood" group) division to make kilts for their color guard. We showed them 5 or 6 swatches of material and they chose the "maroon one". We bought a few bolts of it and made their kilts.
We had lots of material left over and sell it to the general public, but it didn't have a "real tartan name", so we dubbed it "Div 17" in honor of the AOH division that we made it for.
I hope this answers your question!
The fabric is a Cotton Poly blend that's about 9 oz. Lighter than our other tartans, but several people liked the pattern and colors, so we kept it.
