Thanks Rocky!
Several weeks back I ordered a casual kilt (my first kilt) in Colquhoun 'ancient' with matching tartan flashes.
I didn't know what to expect in a kilt, but I was very pleased. Rocky's service was excellent and the quality is better than I expected. I will definitely be ordering from him again (this time in a wool kilt).
I made the kilt belt and sporran myself (I know the long braided tassels are untraditional but I like the look of them). While cream hose may be unpopular with many, I kind of like the look, but I'll be switching over to Lovat blue hose with it in the future, though. And I know some folks frown on wearing a sgian dubh and flashes with boots, but I don't care... I like it (and more importantly my wife likes it, heh).

That looks awesome. I like the boots with pulled-up hose and flashes. Not so sure about the sgian, but if I had a nice one I'm sure I wouldn't be able to resist wearing.
AND now that you have yours hopefully Rocky is working on MINE! 8 weeks takes bloody well forever...

Just commenting since that is my family tartan. But it looks like regular Colquhoun to me. And identical to the regular semi-trad Colquhoun Rocky made for me. But still, a beautiful tartan.

I like the kilt and the boots -- and the attitude.
I'd wear Lovat blue hose and skip the flashes with that outfit.

Congratulations on your first kilt. Gud on ya for constructing your own sporran. I hope it gives you many years of comfort. I hope that you wear it often and find its comfort points on your build. You do look great in it.

Funny that you said that. I did get some Lovat blue hose and you're right - it looks much better. I'm still wearing the flashes, though (they are more subdued with the Lovat blue hose, but still accent the kilt colors nicely, I think).
This is with a shirt my wife made for me. Sort of a pseudo-Jacobite style shirt, although the pattern is actually for a Missouri River Boatman shirt.

By "regular Colquhoun", do you mean modern Colquhoun? All the ones I've seen in the modern Colquhoun are much darker blue and green, to the point where you almost can't see them. The "ancient" colors bring out the pattern much better, in my opinion. But the light source seems to change the blue hue quite a bit. Sometimes it looks dark, sometimes it looks light, and sometimes it even looks a bit greenish.
I'm one of those guys who is claiming my mother's clan - she is a Kilpatrick, one of the Colquhoun septs. So this wasn't just a random choice of tartan for me, although (fortunately) I do love the Colquhoun tartan.
