    Topstitched or not?

We are looking at the options on the kilts. Could you please explain the advantage of topstitching the pleats of the 8-yard kilt? I think Steve's Armstrong ancient is not topstitched (we are travelling, so it is not handy.) Of your customers who prefer the topstitching, why do they prefer it?
Another question: Is the topstitching traditional?
We are considering the Laois tartan, if that makes a difference.
    Thank you for your help.

The basic (really only) difference between our Top Stitched model and our Premier model is how the pleats are sewn. The Top Stitched are sewn on the surface (hence the name "Top Stitched") where the premier is sewn inside out so you don't see any stitching.

There's no real "advantage" to one or the other... it's simply a matter of aesthetic. Top Stitching takes less time, so we can offer it at a lower price.

    I hope these answers help!

That said, I for one prefer the stitching not to show. I have one low yardage kilt with top stitching, and four other machine stitched 8-yard kilts in which the stitching is not visible. I think the hidden stitching looks more finished, but it will likely not be noticeable to anyone but the wearer.
