USA Holyrood PV
I have noticed over the years something about my Holyrood Casual. It seems to go with what ever is left in my closets when it is about time to do laundry. I think I have it figured out.
Blue is the dominant color of this tartan, in 7 shades. Todays fashion designers of casual wear, either consciously or not, like non-primary colors but seem to mostly make colors that work with blue denim. Look around in a crowd and you see it as the most common color used below the waist.
I wear a lot of universal tartans. I pick shirts and dye hose with certain tartan colors in mind. I note that most tartans use primary colors in various shades and hues. A lot of times a shirt I like is not available in a good coordinating color for more than one tartan. The Holyrood seems to be universal in dealing with the ever changing designer colors out there.
My next most universal tartan is the all shades of grey, Sterling. It's one of the few I have worn to the point of looking "worn" and had to get Rocky to make me a new one. But some times I want more color and the Holyrood is at hand.
It took 4 years of heavy wash and wear in rotation with other kilts to get the Sterling a bit fuzzy and faded. It's still in use as a "beater" kilt.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.
