Double good news Woodbadge and new Kilt
It's a good day. I just got the word from my Woodbadge Guide that my ticket form is accepted and I can schedule my beading. A lot of work but so worth it. And shortly after that email I got an update from Judy Sullivan that my Scott Red kilt will be ready to ship by Wendesday.

It's a Boy Scout adult leadership course that involves completing 5 "tickets" personal goals and projects that benefit the organization. Generally it involves Six days of classes followed by several hundred hours of work completing the tickets. When you are done you get awarded ceremonial beads to wear as part of the uniform. It's a great deal of work and dedication. Awardees can join Clan MAcLaren as associate members as there is an old connection between Scouting and the MAcLaren family.

Just to crystal clear wood badge awardees dont join the Maclaren Clan as Associatemembers but thlClan MacLaren Society of North America. (CMSNA) A subtle difference I know but some don't realise there is a difference between a clan and a clan association. Cheers and well done on both sccounts

What you're describing is a specifically American approach to the Woodbadge. In Canada it's a series of three weekend residential courses, preceded by a one-weekend "Part I" and followed by a three month internship "Part III"
Colonel MacLaren gave the land for Gilwell Park, the original Woodbadge site to Lord Baden-Powell when he was doing training of Scouters in England, and in appreciation, the Gilwell neckerchief has a small swatch of MacLaren tartan on the back. MacLaren has, therefore, been considered by many to be a sort of "Regimental Tartan" to the Scout association worldwide.

Glad you asked that because never having made it past cubs, it was double butch to me as well. Now we know.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
