February 15 - Canadian Flag Day

I bet most people (even Canadians) don't even realize we have one! Anyway, if you need another excuse to wear a kilt (perhaps in the Maple Leaf tartan, or one of the provincial or city tartans), here it is.

So, anyway.... Happy Flag Day to my fellow countrymen (and women).

Hm, that's odd to me. I grew up in Hamilton and never heard of it. I wonder if it has anything to do with Laura Secord.

I also grew up in Hamilton (near the Delta) and we'd drive out to Stoney Creek to see the parade. Always a hot, hot day. And fun! One of the few parades in the area that wasn't a Christmas one. Everyone would have one of those small Canadian flags to wave. A virtual sea of red and white.

And no, it had nothing to do with Laura Secord.

Can't say I get too excited about Canada Flag Day. I wish the Red Ensign still flew in the Dominion.

Proudly wearing my New Brunswick tartan tie at work today and will be changing into my "Irish Revenge" tartan kilt to attend the annual United Way campaign awards celebration later today at Government House.

And to honour our beautiful flag (I like the red ensign too but I LOVE the Maple Leaf), I have it proudly displayed in the 10' high snow bank on my front lawn!

National Flag of Canada Day was instituted in 1996 by an Order-in-Council from Governor General Roméo LeBlanc, on the initiative of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien.
