Finally landed a real job!
I finished up graduate school last May after a straight four years for my bachelors. It has been a long, unforgiving six months. 'Inexperienced'. 'Overqualified'. Dozens of interviews, rewritten resumes, cover letters, traveled a total of one hundred hours behind the wheel to interviews. Cut off my ponytail. Lowered my standards. Raised my standards back and then some. Networking. Working part-time at a gun counter to pay the rent, being heckled by customers for ten dollars an hour. skipping dinners with friends and outings because I simply couldn't budget it.
As of this morning, I'm now a communications specialist with an international medical association, handling their internal communications as well as fundraising for their research foundation. For the first time in my twenty four years of life, I have a full time career with benefits and coverage. No more weekends and nights, no more being uninsured, no more coming to work sick because they could fire me for taking off. The money isn't amazing but it's more than I've ever made, I can live frugally and start saving up.
That first pay check may go towards my first tartan kilt, a Casual from USA Kilts. It's been a long road, I need to wear some colors for the first time.

Congratulations on landing a job! I know the feeling well, because job hunting can be a dehumanizing experience at times. Since I retired from the military, I was lucky to land a great job working with great people.
