Happy Diamond Jubillee to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II !
Today her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates along with her people in both the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne.
This feat has only been achieved twice before, by George III (who may not have been aware of it due to his illness) and also Queen Victoria.
She has gained the respect of many people in many countries during her reign and only one current other head of state has served longer.
I am ashamed of the BBC for not giving the event top billing in their news today. :buttkick: A complaint has been duly sent to them.
I will have the unique privilege of toasting Her Majesty with the Quaich this evening and invite all those who have a personal good will to Her Majesty to join me in what is a less than once in a lifetime celebration.
Send Her victorious
Happy and Glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen!

I continually admire Her Majesty for her poise, charm and grace in dealing with people from all areas and all walks of life, while being the head of her nation, church and family. May she continue to reign wisely and well.

God save the Queen!
I am not a British subject, but being a citizen of the country with which Britain has kept the longest lasting alliance in British history, I have the greatest respect for Her Majesty. She is the Head of State of our most ancient friend.
May she rule for many more years and part with her acquired wisdom and experience gathered over 60 years of flawless service as Head of State.
May she be able to give sound advice to her people's representatives and government in a time of severe financial and economic crisis. Because that is the greatest advantage of monarchy: when a monarch has served long and well, the experience gathered over the years is priceless to any competent and humble serving PM and government.
On the other hand... it is hard to come by a government or PM that is humble and keen on serving the best interests of the people. At least here in Europe. But that is another matter...
To Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Nortern Ireland and the Dominions across the Sea!

Then you must be in Portugal fpessanha!
The first Ambassador to congratulate the Queen's Great Grandfather, Edward VII, upon his succession in 1901 was the Marquis de Soveral, the Portuguese Ambassador at that time.

I think the Queen is a good lady. Certainly she hasn't ever shirked her duties and they have come first in her life for the most part. I think she realizes how close the British Monarchy is to extinction, especially in the tough economic times the U.K. curently faces. I don't mind that she seems a bit stuffy, I think honestly that's how it should be. She has a lot of dignity I've always thought. Plus she and my grandmother were both auto mechanics during World War II!
