Highland Games Given Grant by Awards for All

I can now publicly announce that Hawick Highland Games have been awarded up to £5,045 by Awards for All Scotland to grow and sustain the games.
The bulk of the funding is for additional publicity to attract a much larger audience from a wider area but will also allow additional activities in order to grow and sustain the annual games. Those of you who came last year remarked on how few trade stalls were present so this year we will have a Craft Fayre in conjunction with the games. Kilts an More of Dunbar will also be there selling a range of kilts and accessories. For the ladies, Jill from Planet Soaps will be in attendance selling her exquisite range of hand made soaps. There will be a new website:-
    www.hawickhighlandgames.co.uk .
The Haggis Hurling will become a ladies only event for which a new trophy has been purchased, though the Wellie Throwing competition will remain open to all comers. There will be a genealogy exhibition by Rachel Hosker of Hawick Heritage Hub, and we hope also to have a high profile modern celtic band playing in the rugby clubrooms.
There will be a high calibre of contestants from all over Scotland taking part in the heavy events and in the highland dance competitions.
The gates open at 11am on Sunday 20th June, admission £4, concessions £2.
There will be a free bus service between the town centre and the games field at Mansfield Park.
Hawick Pipe Band and Hawick Scout Fellowship Pipe Band will parade along the High Street at 11:45am and from 1pm they will be joined at the games ground by Melrose Pipe Band and Jedburgh Royal British Legion Pipe Band.
Plus of course the usual range of children's entertainments.
    Alex Cunningham, Games Secretary.
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

That's great to hear, Alex. So many of the games and festivals here have cut back because of the economy that hearing of your expansion there is great news.
