My son earned his black belt today!
My 12 year old son earned his black belt today in Tang Soo Do (Korean Karate).
He previously had to write a 1,000 word essay, then today pass a 100-question written test and do a 2-1/2 physical test reviewing everything he has learned in class the last 5 years. He is very tired but happy, and I am very proud of him.
I offered to get him a kilt to celebrate but he turned me down (but other than that, he is a pretty great kid.)

Congratulations to your son, ... and to Dad! That's quite an accomplishment and an honor. You're justifiably proud.
Don't worry about the kilt. It'll come along in time. Just watch Braveheart with him, but don't tell him it's anachronistic.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Oh heck yes!! Good for him! I tested for mine in hakkoryu jujitsu back in September, and I'm training to test for my shodan in Shotokan in August. It's so much work, so much discipline, and I know I couldn't have done it without the support and encouragement of my family. So it's as much an accomplishment for you as it is for your son. Congratulations to you both. As Justin Sensei would say, now he gets to start learning.

Many congratulations to your son, and to you for your support.
You might mention to him that black belts should have shiny silver buckles, and be worn at formal occasions when one isn't wearing a waistcoat...

Congratulations to the lad. His folks may have had something to do with it too!
