New Job, New Location, Garmisch Germany
In two weeks I start a new job in Garmisch, Germany. Garmisch is a ski resort town right on the southern German border at the foot of the Zugzpitze, the highest mountain in Germany.
Some of you know that I work for the US Army in Germany as the Director of Public Works (DPW) at the Grafenwoehr Training Area. We have been undergoing tremendous growth the last 4 years and the work has been very challenging.
For security reasons I don't talk much about the base or show pictures of it, but those who are in the Army and have been to Europe know the place.
The most difficult part of the construction program is over and I think it is time to slow down a bit. So when the DPW in Garmisch announced he was leaving I put my name in the hat and was selected. The US Military presence in Garmisch is much smaller and I'm hoping the job will be a little less stressful. Only about 25% of the employes I have now. Mission will remain the same, taking care of Soldiers and their Families.
This will give me three more years in Germany and then it will be time to retire. Close to Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and the whole south tier of Germany.
Moving is always a pain but my wife and I will get through it and begin to enjoy life a little more.
So wish me luck and I'll be in and out of Xmarks for a while.
(Rocky and Kelly, you know what 3 more years in Germany means, don't you!)
Regards,
Tom

Might I be the first to offer you congratulations on your promotion and new job. Must be pretty cool to be able to live in other parts of the world and get to experience their culture, other than on a holiday. Good luck!

Congratulations on the new post, in a great place.
I'll be nearby next summer, in Oberammergau for the Passion Play, and may even pass through town at some point - haven't planned out the rest of the vacation as yet. If so, I'll be watching out for men in kilts ... but then I generally do.

Good luck in the new assignment. I was in Garmish once for a Transatlantic Council, BSA conference. Great place.
