Recently Elected
Hi all. Just thought I'd pass on a bit of good news in my world; I have been a kilt wearer for the past 4-5 years, and a highland athlete for the past 3 years. I decided that I wanted to give back to the Celtic and highland games community over the next few years, to help promote the sport, and to represent the athletes. So, I ran for and was elected to two organizations that do just that.
First, I am the newest Board Member at Large for the Scottish American Athletic Association (SAAA). I was elected by my peers and fellow athletes, to represent them. The SAAA is a 501c(3) tax-exempt charity organization. Its' mission is to educate the general public on Celtic history and culture through highland games, and to provide a common platform for all highland game athletes to compete on.
And second, I am the newest Board Member at Large on the Tucson Celtic Festival Association (TCFA). The goal of the TCFA is to support and promote the traditions of Celtic cultures in the Tucson area. We put on several events in the Tucson, Arizona area including Burns Night Supper, a Tartan Day event, and the annual local celtic festival (which includes heavy athletics, pipe and drums and highland dance competions, as well as clan tents, celtic bands, whisky tasting and beer gardens, merchandise and food vendors. We also help similar local groups with events like the Great Guinness Toast, and the St. Patricks Day parade.
Websites for these two groups are:
www.saaa-national.org
and
www.tucsoncelticfestival.org
If I can be a resource to any of you, looking for information on festivals and highland games in the Western United States, feel free to contact me.
