She's kilt me, but hasnae killed me! ...yet

Yesterday was four years since I met my fiancee. Although we knew each other through mutual friends and twitter, we didn't meet until she casually let slip that she and some law school friends would be closing out the fall term at a "pub" (we're yanks-- it was a sports bar with a vaguely celtic theme), and wouldn't mind seeing me there. The first thing she said to my face was "I hope you like scotch, cause that's what we're drinking!" She handed me two fingers of Glenlivet and I was hooked. A year and a half ago, we went back to that same pub and ordered Glenlivet again, likely from that same bottle --judging by the dust on it.

Earlier this year, she bought my (first and only, so far) kilt as a birthday present. I daresay she regrets that now, and the talk of a kilted wedding it has spawned. I keep telling her that Keith (her clan) and Austin Ancient is nearly the same color green as she picked out already, and the purple is a dead ringer for thistles. Thus far she hasn't been amenable, but she seems to like the Outlander series and I *cough* just happened *cough* to get her all the books, a shawl in her tartan and a Luckenbooth brooch.

She puts up with me. God knows why.

None of us know why they put up with us, but thank God they do. My wife is convinced I would be living in a cave if she hadn't "rescued" me. Congrats on your upcoming wedding.

The Austin ancient is just the Keith ancient with an additional strip. Austin was an associated family, but then married into the Keiths.
Good luck with the kilted wedding. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary and had a kilted renewal of the vows.

There is no accounting for taste. Mine has put up with me for 36 years to date and I still have no idea why, although we do seem to rub along quite well together. Although English, she was happy with a kilted wedding in Scotland. Just Google Scottish wedding pictures/photos and see if you can't find something that appeals to her ideals.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

How familiar your story sounds. My wife and I lived together four years before we decided to "hitch". I even gave her another year to say no and that was ten years ago. We "honeymooned" and did our ten year anniversary at a motorcycle rally and she hasn't run me off yet. The kilt issue is new to us and growing on her slowly. You've got a head start there with yours. The shawl and brooch was a good touch. Tally Ho!

Thanks! Wasn't aware of the extra stripe in Austin. Likely there will be a Keith kilt in my future. We've been looking into the clan society. What does a "Convener" do, and is there one for the Carolinas?

Just be careful - after seeing me kilted for our wedding reception, my wife bought 3 kilt skirts for herself. I now have three so I've finally caught up...for now...
    Hope your plans go well.

Yes, well, I almost believe it myself, that I might be living in a cave if my wife hadn't civilized me. Or at least a shabby apartment with a bare lightbulb hanging from the ceiling or some such similar arrangement.....

Before we were married, she came over to my house and looked in the frig. Contents were...a jar of mustard and a six pack of beer.

I took this off the clan website. www.clankeith-usa.org I think it explains things better than I do.

    What are Clan Conveners?

These are volunteers who host Clan Keith information booths at Highland Games within a certain area, usually their home state. (They gather information, decorations and educational information to set up inviting booths in order to attract potential members.)
They give out information and invite potential members to join the organization.
They follow up with visitors to provide encouragement and assistance in becoming a Clan Keith member.

As to the Carolina conveners; I'll PM you the email address.
