This gentle looking beauty is the latest from Hammer & Sickle,
named, The Caleanoch. They are pronouncing it CAL-in-ock, although the translation of this word is not available to me, perhaps the more knowledgeable will chime in?
Peat fired filler with Dominican wrapper, very little details seem to be available so far, other than this particular stick is a '25% peat strength' and they will be offering 50% and 75% next year.
    Has its own website:

    http://thecaleanoch.com/#top

I'm getting the 'cashing in' vibe from it, but I'll reserve that judgement until I find out where the peat comes from and where it's made.
I have NOT smoked it yet. Construction is good. Very light, if any, peat taste in a dry draw, but, as I enjoy other H&S cigars, it should be a good smoke nonetheless.

Yeah, I think it's pronounced "callinock", but Scottish placenames can have deceptive pronunciations...

Anyway, I don't smoke and never will, so I'll just show myself out...

I don't claim to have a sensitive palate, but I have had a few of these at this point and feel I can comment.
It tastes as good as any Connecticut shade I've ever had. All have been consistent burn and strength.
As for the selling point - the peat smoked flavor - very subtle, if at all. Which holds true to the initial aroma and dry draw.
A good smoke, worthy of my time and money, but I am more interested in the cigars with higher peat content due for release this year...

Have you tried any of the Drew Estate Muwat Kentucky Fire Cured cigars?
I found them an interesting smoke, but could not detect much "smoke" in the flavor. They did not, however, have the cloying sweetness of many DE cigars.

I'll keep my eye out for the Caleonoch. Thanks.

I have had them! A good smoke, but not my particular taste. I found, the batch we had at least, that robust flavor a little too over the top for me.
Btw, my fav DE is the Undercrown - love that San Andreas wrapper!

I will definitely try these, but only when the peatier versions are released. Should go well with an after-dinner dram of Islay Malt.

Sort of matches my thoughts. I might even try to 'infuse' one to see if it brings out more flavor.
