    County's Place In National Brewing League

    Hampshire has been ranked at #24 in a table of the country's most prolific beer brewing regions.
    Despite sluggish overall sales of beer, Camra reports the real ale industry is seeing rapid growth, with more brewers in operation than at any time since the second world war.
    Crmra has found that 71 new breweries have started production in the UK in the last 12 mounths, taking the total to 711 breweries nationwide.
    Roger Protz, editor of the good beer guide, said "For the first time since the 19th century, Britain is the undisputed top brewing country in the world. It has over 700 breweries & has more small craft breweries per head of population than all other major industrialised countries;
    And there is more to come: the good beer guide lists 25 new breweries that will come on stream later this year & in 2010.

    Breweries

    That is very good news ( as a regular beer drinker). However, if the government stops all alcohol advertising, Scotland puts a minimum price on alcohol and no doubt many other ways of stopping us drinking (so much), then no doubt some of these great breweries will go out of business. Very sad.

    It might (maybe!) end up being a good thing for small brewers. Someone going out for ten pints probably drinks cheap lager, but someone who is going to have just one or two (as we are all supposed to do nowadays) may well be prepared to pay that bit extra for a quality microbrewed beer to really savour. We can always be optimistic eh?

    Minimum pricing wont have any effect on over 90% of alcohol. No great breweries will go out of business unless you are like-minded with these young men:

    P.S. - to the thread's first post. I didn't know Britain was a country!
    It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
