    Drinkin' wine spodiodi

So, there is a FINE syndicated Blues radio program which plays in metro Chicago, "Blues From The Red Rooster Lounge."

DJ, the Red Rooster has been at this for a long time and does know his stuff. Oh, my he do.

Anyway, there came this song, "Drink'n Wine Spodee-odee" which piqued a bit of interest. Lo and behold, reading Jack Kerouac's On The Road, Sal Paradise has some wine spodiodi with a just-met colleague, traveling in the South.

Songwriter Champion Jack Dupree (or Sticks McGhee?) calls it, "...a shot of port wine, a shot of cheap bourbon, a shot of port wine, sweet blanket for all that bad whiskey." 'Think the song was covered by Hank Williams and Jerry Lee Lewis, too.

It ain't single malt Scots whusky, but it was fun to try. Anyone else?

Well....there's always white port and kool-aid....that's an old South Side standby....

Actually, the bartender at The Duke will pop a magic can of the Guinness but he tosses a quick shot of port in the glass first.

Here's the best info I could come up with on the lyrics. I always thought it was just about wine with a "nonsense" word.

Kerouac turns it into the recipe for a lost weekend. . . no thanks. . . but will have to see if Red Rooster's program streams online, we do like a shot of blues here on occasion. Already have our tickets to Joe Bonamassa when he hits San Diego in December!
