    Has anyone been to Tuscany?

Honeymoon destination of the week for my fiance and I. Please don't invest a lot of time in your responses, we haven't bought tickets yet. This is like the eleveneth destination we have talked about, but it seems to have sort of clicked with both of us.

Average weather (late May, early June) looks great. google images, looks like a great place. Shoe shopping in Florence, oooooh.

We would be taking a polar flight into Frankfurt Germany if we go.

How many days on the train from Frankfurt to Milan or Florence? Better to fly Franfurt-Florence maybe and just Italy-rail passes?

Besides transit time Frankfurt airport to Tuscan destiantion, I am curious about tipping. It seems like tipping is much more common in Italy than in the US; how many euros do you tip who for what routinely? I would rather have a rational idea and a pocket of small bills than be thought a boor.

Thanks for your short answers. If she and I are still on this page in a couple weeks I'll have better questions.

If you want all the info you ever need try Lonely Planet Guide for Italy available at any good bookshop worldwide. If you have a friendly book shop and they have a copy, pop in and have a browse for those initial questions. I have travelled around the world and "never leave home without it"

There is a little town North of Lucca called Barga, that has a very strong Scottish element. Lots of Scottish flags flying and the occasional Scottish military band playing there in the summer. Afew kilts around also.

We loved the area...didn't find that much difference in tipping etc from what we are used to. If you are into food, wine, beautiful scenery and wonderful people, make the trip.

Go! My family and I spent four days in Florence in 2008. For honeymooners there's lovely tuscan villages around Florence. Great wine, great "slow" food, romantic, lovely and fun locals. Warm. We were there in late April and it was beautiful. You can fly from Frankfurt right to the smaller airport in Florence or to the larger airport at Pisa, just a short train ride away. Ahhh, take me back!
