There's a great little store here in Halifax which has a large selection of beers (and wines, but I'm not really into wines) that you will never find in the NS liquor commissions. Here you can find beers from some smaller Canadian breweries (such as Dieu de Ciel in Quebec) US breweries, some European and even some from Brewdog in Scotland (one outlandishly-priced bottle kept high on a shelf in back of the cash area is over $100!... I can't remember if it's their "Atomic Penguin" or not! (you'd think I would remember such a thing)
Anyway, I had already tried a great "Barley Wine" (really not a wine since it's made from grains, so it's a beer) by them so I am currently trying their "Kilt Lifter" "scotch style ale" (appropriately purchased whilst kilted, as usual).
This pours very dark with a hint of warm amber colour. It is leaning a bit towards the warm, dense and rich taste of the barley wine (it is 8.0% while the barley wine is 10%).
They are in California and it is nice to see some of their bottles have reached the other coast.
