Oatmeal: How Do You Make Yours?
First, what is the proper Scottish way or ways to prepare oatmeal?
Next, how do you prefer to have your oatmeal?
And finally, what time of day do you eat oatmeal?
I eat about a quart of oatmeal mixed with chilled fruit juice or sometimes yoghurt every evening at eight. It's getting colder over here, so I've started heating the oatmeal.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

We're eating a porridge oats, rolled, with wheat bran and flax in it. My wife uses a dash of salt while cooking. I use maple syrup for sweetening usually, but have used fruit and add soy milk as well. That's breakfast. It always has been.
My mother made it with a pinch of salt. We'd add brown sugar and milk and have lots of buttered toast beside.

I like the steel cut oats and we cook them in salted water, add a wee bit of butter, brown or raw sugar and raisins!

Ted, I eat McCann's imported Irish rolled oats for sometime now, though in truth I haven't lately (and I should, it would help combat my diverticulitis). When I do it is usually for breakfast, and rather than brown sugar I add wild honey (either local or from the southwest) to it. Sometimes I add fresh blueberries to it (if I have them). I use to prepare it on the stove top, but they now have a 3 minute microwave version!
Good stuff!

I just cook it according to the instructions, scoop it into a bowl, and give it to my wife. Then I heat up a pop-tart.
I never had a taste for oatmeal...but I'll devour a bowl of grits!
Sorry all. I couldn't help myself.

Steel cut, lately Quaker, in the past McCanns. Sweetened with Splenda, with Craisens (dried, sweetened cranberries) and chopped almonds. I have it for breakfast.
Sticks to your ribs!

Steel cut. I bring it to a boil, add the oats and than put in a thermos. A couple hours later when it's breakfast time they're perfect. A touch of I Can't Believe it's Not Butter and Splenda (damn triglycerides).
