    Only $100 a year!!

A post in the Talisker thread had a link to Binny's. Down here in NC with ABC stores our choices for single malts are limited so it was interesting to run through all the choices. But $4,999.00 for a 750 ml bottle of 50yo Malt?

I don't think anything is worth that price. But then I can't afford it.

You know, if I had that kind of disposable income, I might buy a bottle and share it with my friends, to see if it really was worth it... and to have the experience of having shared a 50 year old whiskey.

I have decided to buy a few bottles of limited production Bordeaux this year with the express purpose of letting them age in my cellar for a minimum of 10 years to see what happens. Might be fun to open a really good, and quite possibly expensive bottle of wine.

But I cannot envision ever spending that on a bottle of anything

I have a picture on my phone of a $1999 bottle of scotch, but I don't know how to download it.

I confess that if I had the money, I would buy it and put it back for my own funeral and have everyone who ever loved me have a shot of it. I'm too cheap to drink that stuff myself!

...and with all the trouble the ABC board has had in the last few weeks, they might be drinking up what little bit of good stuff they do stock!

I would almost be afraid to sip that, but it sure would be nice.

Too bad whisky doesn't age in glass- we could all set aside a bottle somewhere and leave it to our mourners or our children. Port and wine DO age in glass and that is why they continue to improve "on the shelf". Does anyone know about a source for small kegs or barrels of whisky?

Funny... I'd never heard of Auchentoshan before... but my fiancee bought a bottle of it for my birthday yesterday. Not that bottle, mind you... And then this link.

I don't think I could ever justify that much for a bottle of Scotch even if I did have the disposable income. Assuming there are about 15 shots in a bottle of Scotch, that's around 333$ per shot. I'm not sure I'd ever even pay that much for an entire bottle

Maclowlife, I've seen some 1L barrels at various Renaissance Festivals I've been at. Check out this link... http://www.winebarrel.com/cart/index.htm You'd have to add your own whisky, but I'm not sure if it'd continue aging at that point? Probably not.

Even if I had that kind of money later on I doubt I could bring myself to spend it. Years of being a student has left a certain permanent frugality, I think. Wouldn't mind trying it all the same.
