Recycle use for old whiskey bottles
My wife loves the shape, label and box of the various whiskey's we've purchased and consumed over the years. She began "collecting" the empty bottles recently under the assumption she would create some kind of special vinegar to go into the bottles. She would then give the bottled vinegar as gifts for Christmas.
My thought is she has had way too many drams of whiskey!
Does anyone have a different way to creatively recycle old whiskey bottles?

Isn't there a house built out of old whisky bottles out in Death Valley?

My wife uses the cylindrical boxes and oval cans some of the bottles come in to store taper candles.

I think her idea is great! They could be used for flavored olive oils, too. I keep a hand painted bottle filled with olive oil with a pour spout right by the stove, and it's so handy when I am cooking. Flavored oils (rosemary, garlic, etc.) would make great gifts. Might be good for syrups, too.

Actually, there are a lot of them. There's a whole segment about them in the Stephen Frye's America episode about New Mexico. Bottles are stuck through adobe and act as light channels into the interior of the structure.
Great architect Bruce Goff did a lot of this sort of thing. I've been to a couple of his houses where he embedded large chunks of glass castoffs from the factory into the walls to achieve the same effect....it is really stunning.
Also been to a wonderful fantasy land home made monument up in Northern Wisconsin called Concrete Park. Been there as it's in the hometown of a friend...very eerie place where the guy made primitive sculptures with glass embedded in them. I highly recommend the place.

Re: Recycle use for old whiskey bottles
I saw a really clever use of whiskey & other types of bottles at the Church craft show.
You drill a small hole in the bottle (need a special bit...I think it is called "diamond tip"). The hole is in the back, on the side, near the bottom. Next, you put Christmas lights inside the bottle. Of course, the "plug" is on the outside (hence the small hole...you thread the lights through it & leave the plug outside). It is a beautiful effect - both the clear & colored lights looked great!
The same crafter also turned some of the bottles into lamps.

A use for the tube containers would be to store a practice chanter. A member of a Pipe & Drum unit I was in carried his like this.
An interesting thread for this would be recyled items used in uniques ways.
PVC pipe is my favorite, I played snare and used lengths I sewed into a carrier on either side of my drum to carry spare drum sticks.
Also I use two capped sections in my pipe case to carry my chanter and brushs. They also helped stiffen up case.

My neighbor "borrows" bottles from me to make incense burners.
