    Rosemary

Have heaps of rosemary branches and sprigs drying to be milled right now.

Just wondering how you all like using rosemary.

I sometimes make a tea or put it in with the coffee. It's good on potatoes and other food. It also sometimes seems to have an effect on my cats a little like nip.

I put it in bags in the closet, drawers and shoes; though I don't know if it replaces cedar for keeping the moths away from the wool and leather of kilts and sporrans etc.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I have rosemary bushes too: they keep the deer out of my wife's flowerbeds.

I once made an ointment with it by melting a jar of Vaseline with several rosemary sprigs in it. When applied to the skin over sore muscles, it does a fair job of easing the soreness. It also does wonderfully when my legs get dry and itchy in the winter. And of course, it helps ease the itching from spring/summer chigger bites.

I've also made tea from it, which is a decent treatment for migraines (which I suffer from periodically). Although I've never tried it in coffee - that just sounds weird!

And of course, we use it for cooking. My favorite recipe, by far, is Rachel Ray's version of Drunken Tuscan Pasta. A good chianti and fresh rosemary make it absolutely wonderful. And I agree, it's great on potatoes. We like to cut potatoes into cubes, toss them with olive oil, garlic, and rosemary, and then oven-roast them. It's delicious!

Rosemary has several medicinal uses that you should take advantage of! And the real blessing of rosemary is that it's drought-resistant, which is always a plus in my area. It thrives without any assistance, and stays green all year round, so it's always available for cutting sprigs for our use.

I use rosemary when roasting lamb joints spiked with cloves of grlic then by placing a few sprigs over the meat in a Dutch oven.

I put it in just about anything I cook, from soups and stews to roasted veggies to grilled portabella caps. I have a recipe for rosemary shortbread, but I've never made any.

    Rosemary: that's for remembrance.

Fresh rosemary in honey and a little lime juice makes nice sauce for melons. I like rosemary with pork, and I sometimes put a sprig or two under the skin of a chicken when I roast one. I am thrilled to finally live in a climate where rosemary is winter hardy!

*** Lamb pierced with Rosemary, garlic and pancetta and roasted to a VERY rare medium-rare is delightful.

I also have a fantastic recipe for rare 'beef on weck' served with hearty peasant bread, red onion and rosemary mayonnaise as a mind-blowing buffet sandwich.

Rosemary always brings to mind my favorite turkey recipe. Cover recipe from Bon Appetit magazine, 1994. Now a family "requirement" for Thanksgiving.

Yes, sometimes I put spices like rosemary or cinnamon in with the coffee grounds when I make coffee; it's usually very strong, black, bitter coffee. All you need is a bur grinder mill.

Sometimes I put black pepper or red chili pepper in there too.

And yes, I am weird, but I live alone,, so I'm not inflicting red chili coffee on anyone else.
