scotch woes...
My dilemma...
I had to run off to the liquor store for a resupply of my favorite scotch. The shop just happened not to have any available
So, what is a guy to do? I saw some Laphroaig 10 and have heard nothing but good reviews, and still have yet to try it myself. So...
Then, I saw something that I had not yet heard of, Clynelish 14. I figure since I haven't yet tried a scotch I do not like, I would consider this as well. So, now what do I do?
Get both. Of course!
Now, which to try first?

That's the way to cut the Gordian Knot! I suggest that you get someone to blind test you, so you can find out which one you prefer without the "benefit" of the label.
Of course, one is very peaty, so you should easily be able to tell the two apart.
I prefer the non-peaty malt and it is excellent. I always drink it neat, because it is one of those scotches that tastes "soapy" to me if water is added. Others include any of the Obans and Edradour.
Enjoy, and let us know what you think of them.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

The way to truly determine your favorite Scotch is to try a variety of Scotches. Happy hunting!

I have often had a dram or twa out of a stone glass that has been in the family for some time. Kind of cured. Rinsed not washed.
Enjoy your quest!! and the uisge beatha!

I was able to bring myself to test both my new scotches last night. It was a rough going, but I endured.
The Clynelish 14 was pretty good. I think I will enjoy it and probably get it again. It was much smoother and more fruity (if that is a good way to describe it).
The Laphroaig 10 was smokey and peaty...and I really enjoyed it as well.
Both were quite good and I'd recommend either at roughly $40 a bottle (prices are in Oklahoma, if that matters).

I have found that I like scotch. I have yet to find one that I outright disliked. I do have preferences, but enjoy them all. Likewise, I like them served a variety of ways (neat, rocks, splash of water). It is certainly a nice thing to hunt scotch

Laphroaig is one of my very favourits but I have never bought a bottle of malt whiskey which I have felt was money wasted or has hung around the house for long. Some I like better than others but they all contribute to the experience and the education of the taste buds.
