Whiskey brownies
This is from my latest cookbook. I know the purest will object but I'm sure the rest of us bear it well.
Whiskey (or in our case whisky) brownies -
7 tablespoons unsalted butter
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
3 large eggs
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/3 cup whisky
1 cup unbleached flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Grease a 9" X 9" baking pan with butter. Dust with flour and tap out the excess. Preheat the oven to 350F.
Melt butter and chocolate in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently. Set aside and let cool to room temperature.
Beat the eggs, sugar, and vanilla together until smooth. Beat in the cooled chocolate mixture, then add the whisky, and mix until well combined.
Measure the flour and salt and sift together directly into the batter. Mix gently until well combined and no trace of dry ingredients remains.
Pour the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with only crumbs, not batter on it.
Remove from the oven and cool on a rack for 1 hour. Cut just before serving.
Makes 12 to 18.

Super Jim. Smiles in our kitchen; we'll try that one. Thank you. (somebody just asked if that means we can try other brownies, too? He had his back to me so I'm not sure who that was )

Made a batch last night. Funny part is while I drink scotch when out on the town since I don't drink at home (I can count the number of times on one hand) I don't have any scotch. So I had to use the Gentleman Jack I had.
Let me tell you I was thinking it would be a subtle flavor. You ca smell it from a ways away and the flavor is smack you up side the head.

I'm not one of nature's bakers, but I'm dying to try this recipe (or at least convince my wife to try it after she recovers from the Christmas cookie 'rush').
Sounds like they'd be delicious with a nice dram in front of the fire after an evening's skiing.

I'll have to try this one!
Now the question is: should I sacrifice my Glenlivet Scotch or the Pendleton Canadian Whiskey?

I thought I would get this in before the New Year's resolutions start.
Made a different recipe from the book. This one is a caramel brownie.
The list of players. I had to use store bought caramel since when I tried it with left over homemade it didn't work out -
Getting thinks melted and premixed -
Mixing the eggs, vanilla and sugar -
Next comes the melt chocolate and butter -
Sifting in the flour and salt -
Mixed all together, batter is ready -
Half goes into prepared pan -
Topped with the melted caramel -

Goes into the fridge for 20 minutes to solidify it all and than topped with the rest of the batter -
A few minutes in the oven and here we go -
Flipped out and cooling, the caramel was absorbed into the brownies -
Sliced up and ready to eat -
Yum.
