Your favourite drink?
Hi guys. Just wondering what your favourite type of drink is... personally mine is probably beer, though I do enjoy a nice pear cider or malt whisky!
If it's not on the list then please feel free to select "other" and post with details.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

I usually have a pint or 3 of beer (and often my own homebrew), but I do love me some gin.

That's such a difficult question. Are we speaking about before, during or after dinner? We could limit it to the afternoon or then again to the late evening.
Before dinner: scotch something like Laphroig.
During dinner: red wine or if we're out of red then white is acceptable.
After dinner: port
Hot afternoons: Guinness
Late night: cognac

I had to vote whisky because it's currently my favorite, although my tastes change with the seasons. In summertime I tend to favor cocktails made with gin, rum, tequila, and others. But wintertime is for whisky.
And I ain't one of them uppity folks who refuse to take whisky in any condition other than 'neat'. I like it in cocktails, traditional Scottish drinks, coffee, even for cooking with. Especially in desserts. I made some malt whisky truffles the other night that nearly knocked my socks off.
For me, a good ale or dark beer is good all year round, and I probably drink it half the time, with spirits being the other half.

I am quite adament in demanding only the best of single malt scotch. Unless all you have is a good blend, and then I'll damand that. Unless all you have is beer, and then, I'll demand that. A good red wine works, too, or a white if it's dry.
Actually, since beer and red meat--two of life's great pleasures--are not good for gout, I have learned to steer clear of both. . .usually. I do enjoy a good beer--either Guiness or Dos XXX if possible--but I still love the taste and after taste and nose of a good scotch above all else.

Whisky is very nice indeed, but it plays second fiddle in my book to a wonderful gin cocktail

I just noticed that "ale" is a separate category from "beer" in the voting options. Paul, do you think you can change that before I accidentally give in the my beer geek tendencies and start a thread-jack on beer styles?
