    Kilt hangers

Where can I find the best kilt hangers in the UK? I got some skirt hangers through Amazon and used two to hang a kilt. But they are falling apart.

Kinloch Anderson advertise a characteristically upmarket hanger with no clips http://www.kinlochanderson.com/mens/...t-clamp-hanger

    What do members advise?

    If I may Johnathan,

I am taking down and hanging kilts all day in my shop.

We have a lot of kilts and hundreds of hangers. We simple can not afford to spend a fortune on hangers.

Also, over the years, we have tried just about every way of hanging a kilt that has ever been tried.
The problem is that a full 16oz wool kilt can sometimes weigh over 4 pounds or 2kg.

Most kilt hangers offered by other vendors have you fold your kilt much the way it is worn. The hanger must then go over three or four layers. They just will not open that far and still hold the weight.

One day I tried using two hangers and VIOLA!!!!! it stayed.

What I found is that it is not the hanger that is the secret to hanging a kilt.

I can use fairly inexpensive hangers in my shop and I teach this to all my customers.

First. Don't bother with expensive hangers. I buy these plastic clip hangers in bulk for about a dollar apiece. You can actually find these anywhere and most department stores will give you them for free.
You can also use standard pants hangers almost all of us have these already.

To hang your kilt - open the kilt all the way. (the kilt I am using is my Tewksbury traditional kilt which is very heavy)

Then, fold the kilt in half. Bring the two aprons together.

Put one hanger on the aprons, and another on the pleats.

Then fold the kilt in half once again.

The jaws of the Hanger are only having to go over two layers of kilt.

I am confidant that you will find that your kilt is hung securely and wrinkle free.

And the really great part is that very little expense is involved.

Bravo! A fine photo block of instruction. I greatly like the hand complimenting the 45 degree angle of the "speed square" in the background of the last pic. Classy and well done.

Ah, but my copy of TAoK is signed by the author.

Of course Barb added to her autograph "Don't quit your day job". But it still counts.

Ok, I'm going to go get a few of those cheapie hangers and give that a whirl, my kilt collection is now exceeded my froo froo hanger quantity.

That is exactly how I have hung my kilt for the last 25 years. Works perfectly with no problems. I usually hang the kilt inside of a plastic suit protector also.

An old pillow case with a hole in the centre of the end seam will let your kilt breath better. Some plastics & vinyls can discolour light fabrics. Any moisture that is trapped inside a plastic bag can eat away at the stitches.

Yes, the two hanger approach is what I use, also. I just buy them at Wal-Mart, at a relatively inexpensive price. And I store mine in a pillow case, as already mentioned, with a hole cut in the center. Then I pin the bottom closed to keep moths out. It's been working fine for several years.
