I bought a pair of hose with store credit from a store in Scotland. And not thinking about US v UK sizes, I ordered large. I now own a beautiful pair of bottle green hose that will reach my back-side with no problem. They are 50/50, wool/poly blend. Can they be "downsized" with a trip (or 3) through the washer-dryer on hot? If not, I may have an item to post for sale. Or I can use them this winter as leggings to stay warm! Please offer suggestions or condolences or laughs.
I defer this question to Alan or other (thick in the leg, heavy athletes). Many of our members have "tree trunk calves" and may know the answer. I speculate they have purchased over sized hose, then shrink fit them to fit their bodies.
Since you are not over-run with answers, I'll submit one. Were it my problem, I'd try the hot wash/dry method. My wife has mistakenly done that to a pair of my hose and it did reduce the size. Whether this would be sufficient, you would have to try it and find out.
