4 tartans for sale on eBay

I seem to recall that named tartans were not supposed to be offered for sale on eBay, however...

For the next six days a seller has four offerings of 4 meters double-width of each tartan listed below, starting at around $50 (one has already gone up to nearly $100 for four meters - still a great price.)

    Forbes - item# 150068054341
    Leslie - item# 150068054879
    Rose Hunting - item# 150068055481
    MacKenzie/Seaforth - item# 150068055949

Probably have to watch out for the overseas postage, and who knows what Customs might do, but it may turn out cheaper than a direct buy from a mill or a US importer.

Why are named tartans not supposed to be sold on eBay?

I looked into these 4 when this seller had the same tartans for sale a couple of months ago. He was one of those UK sellers who charges quite a bit for shipping, refuses to ship by surface transport, says he will use only air. This would have doubled their cost.

    Yeah, I'm wondering that too.

Anyway, I purchased 2 meters of Forbes from him several months ago. The material is pretty good.

I haven't quite finished the kilt I started out on made from it, though ><

This guy: http://stores.ebay.com/Richards-Fabrics-and-Trimmings usually has some tartan for sale. I usually see PV selections from him, but he only charges ₤5.25, which works out to about $10.50... which doesn't seem like a bad price to me.

I once had a gent charge me ₤15.99 shipping for 6 meters of 11oz Dress Stewart. Very nice material... and I probably couldn't find 6 meters of the same material elsewhere for $165 total. The gent in question can be found at: http://stores.ebay.com/Tartanmclan44
