    Antler kilt pins

Loon Mountain is coming up and there was something missing from my kit.... A kilt pin! So I put some thought it and came up with a couple ideas. One was easy, do a kilt pin of the Buchanan crest. Then I thought a bit further. Birch is one of the plant badges of Buchanan, so why not do that? As it happened, I still had some antler from another project and some time on my hands, so I made both. And that's a US penny for scale.

Kept it simple. I cut and shaped wee little steel plates for the back and epoxied them. I'll use a rare earth magnet to keep them in place.

Nearly did! It was at the end of the day, my youngest was all hopped up from dancing (Celtica was awesome) and ran over to hug me. Knocked my pin off. Found it and the magnets. I'll be switching over to a proper pin forthwith.

I am thinking it would be nice to make a pin out of a spikehorn antler. I could always cut a tine off and sand it down to make it look appealing and attach a magnet or pin...

Here is a pic of my staghorn kilt pin. I purchased it from USA Kilts to wear on my Stewart Old sett kilt also from USAK.

and miracles never cease, I only see one dog hair in this pic. That has to be a first as I usually have more dog hair on my kilts than my dog Abby has on her.
