Because I have no sense - The Christmas Present Kilt
Someone is getting a "California Summer Weight" kilt made from Fraser and Kirkbright Hunting Stewart tartan for Christmas. This fabric was going to be for Mrs. Farlander, to be turned into a kilt skirt for her at the Nor Cal Rabble Stitch 'n B**ch In January but we found some killah wool MacFarlane, red tartan on ebay. So Mrs. Farlander gets the MacFarlane and this "mystery" person gets the Hunting Stewart. It will be a 5-6 yard, knife pleat to sett, machine-sewn. The stuff is a wool-polyester blend. My current throwing kilt, in Lindsay, modern is the same stuff. It's on the light side, but looks good and it's great in the summer....and it's machine washable, to boot.
About two years ago I swore that I'd never make another kilt. I guess I lied!

No Alan, you changed your mind. It is permissable.

Well, major scare after cutting this out, but I can make this work. I'd be crying if this had been $70 a yard, 16 ounce wool, though. I suppose this is a relatively painless way to learn a tough lesson. Just because the tartan appears to be symmetrically laid out over the length of the cloth, does not mean that it actually IS.

That would be a silly assumption. Silly!

LOL....ya nuts!
Finished fiddling with the pleating this morning. I've fuddled with it for about two hours, getting it *just so*. It's pleated to sett. This morning I lightly pressed in the pleats in the fell, preparatory to machine top-stitching them.
As described in another thread, I had to serge/lock down a raw edge and then hem this kilt. Once i got the selvedged edge on the kitchen table, I also decided that the selvedge wasn't really up to snuff, so that got folded over and hemmed. overall kilt length is now about 23 1/4 inches. My notes say that this young gentleman can have a kilt 23-24 inches long, depending on where he wants it to hit his knee, so I'm still good to go.

Either take some pics when you're done, or make pics a condition of receipt for the luckster who's getting such a cool present. It'll make our envy sting even worse!

I think that can be arranged! I suspect that this kilt will get worn to the Nor Cal Rabble Burns night, so....
