    Convertible Sporran Part 2

I finally found time to make a second flap for my convertible sporran.

Here is a shot of the pouch and both flaps:

After wearing it over the past weekend I decided the size isn't bad at all. I will still probably make a slightly smaller version, though.

Attaching the flap with screw posts worked out fine. Since the two pieces aren't stitched together there is a slight lip at the top-back of the bag. It is noticable when you are inserting/removing items from the sporran, but it isn't really in the way. Still, it might bother some people so I thought it worth mentioning. Overall I am very happy with the design.

The cross on the new flap is one I carved for an earlier project that didn't go as planned. This new sporran flap gave me the chance to salvage the cross.

I love the knot-work cross and the versatility. Very good work. Wear it in good health.

Beautiful work. Love the Celtic knot in the cross.

I'm still trying to get my eyeballs to rotate independently , so that I can carve one into a Sgian Dubh handle.

Nice work! Did you have to paint the dye on? I've always been interested in how that works. Beautiful !

Very nice, i love the whole idea of switching the flaps. Did you come up with this idea or is there a place that makes similar sporrans? Either way, great work.

    Thanks for the nice comments.

The knotwork in the cross was a lot of work, which is why I was eager to find a way to salvage it.

Yes, the dye was applied with a small artist's paint brush. It's always tricky to apply the dye without having bleed over to areas where you don't want it. Indepedently rotating eyeballs would be a great help

As for the idea: I bought a sporran a few months ago and the back was attached with rivets. It occurred to me that, with a few minor changes, the rivets could be replaced with screw posts and you could have interchangeable flaps. It is much quicker and easier to make a new flap than to make an entire sporran.

It's nice when things just seem to come together like that. Kind of makes your day. Pretty ingenious in my opinion.

I can appreciate the work in that knot. I've committed myself to trying a complicated design. Everytime I start I get frustrated and walk away. It should be done in about 2 or 3 years... at this rate.

Can't stop looking at the knot.
