    DIY Kilts #4 an5

#5 on the left, with myself in it, #4 on the right, girding my brother's loins. Both are 16 oz. MacTavish Modern, mine from Marton Mills and his from Lochcarron. They are virtually identical tartan-wise - colors and thread counts. He wanted (and got) pleating to the slightly wider blue stripe on a red field, I opted for the thin blue stripe over black. IMO, a classic example of how different looks can be had from the same tartan by using different pleating options.
Both got their shake-down cruise this past weekend at the Columbus, Indiana Games and both passed sea trials with flying colors.

    Both well turned out.
The pleating options are just another reason we need more kilts!

Wow, that's a great example of completely different-looking kilts from the exact same tartan, using different pleating choices. If I had just seen those two kilts from behind without knowing it, I'd have thought they were different tartans!

A wonderful illustration of the different looks that result from choosing different stripes. Very diificult to believe that those are #4 and #5--you really do some beautiful work.

Them's two sets of well-girded loins!

Nice work, they both look great. There's a pipe band here in California that wears MacTavish and I really like the tartan.

Just beautiful.... and the difference between the two is striking! The photo truly captures the unique personality of tartan.

amazing what can be done with how things are pleated ... there is a complex mathematics to kilts (didn't Newton wear a kilt... I guess not)
