    DIY Tartan Luggage Tag

Came out pretty crude, but its still easy to spot.

Started with a give-a-way advertising plastic luggage tag. Roughed up the plastic with a file. Glued a square of wool Cameron Modern tartan with super glue. Some of the glue soaked through so it ain't real pretty...but its easy to spot on a baggage Carousel and should keep someone else from mistaking my bag for theirs.

Had to cut the wool where the little belt thing goes through. And the backside has a place for a business card.

This is a great idea, Ron. Every year we get a few in Christmas crackers and they just get dumped in a drawer.

Time to put them to good use i think.

    Regards

The tag made the flight out well. Easy to spot my luggage at baggage claim. On the trip back the plastic tag got snapped in half, but the wool held it together. So, back to the drawing board. Maybe glue the next one to a leather tag.

I travel a fair bit and have gone through a few tags. My most recent tag replacement was a package of 3M self-laminating luggage tags. It laminates a business card quite nicely and has held up fairly well, being slightly more flexible than the normal plastic tags. 3M also sells sheets of the self-laminating plastic which would be ideal to laminate a larger piece of tartan.

Before I found the 3M products, the best luggage tag I had was one where I'd used clear duck tape to 'laminate' my card.

Anything that hangs off the bag is subject to (incremental) damage and loss. I prefer bags that have a built-in sleeve for a card.

I wouldn't check a bag like Ron's anyway! With that style, I've put the tag itself inside the bag, fed the attachment up between zipper pulls to the outside handles. Again, just reducing the amount of stuff dangling off the outside.

Tie or wire a scrap of tartan to the handle if you want the visible flag -- or carry bright red hibiscus-patterned suitcases like mine, take away all those "bags look alike" excuses LOL
