    A Dubh won't do so I'll do a Bru

Ren fest time is here and Jennifer and I are looking forward to going to the Kansas City Ren Fest running from September to October. Each weekend is a theme, the 20th-21st being Highland games. We went last year and had a grand time so we are looking forward to it again. While waiting to buy tickets last year I was questioned about the realness of my Sgian Dubh. I replied it was real and was nicely asked to not bring it in. I can understand the fact there would be a large crowd and a lot of beer and wine consumed. I'm sure the fest people are just trying to keep it safe. I stashed my dubh in my sporran and we continued on in. Good thing they didn't check it or they would have found my flask of good cheer. This year I intend to go again and didn't want to walk around dubhless so I put my creative skills together, used some old scraps of cherry wood and found online a place to purchase the crown cap opener. Below is my simple version of a Sgian Bru (brew). I know there are gents that sport these on the rare occasion an edge weapon is not appreciated and I will do the same at the Ren fest.

This was a pretty basic Sgian Bru carved out of cherry and treated with Danish oil.

Photo of a Bru to be and my compleated one.

My Bru ready to pop a top again.

Next to my Sgian Dubh showing I got the length about perfect

And one in my kilt hose, or rather country socks used as kilt hose.

This was a fun evening project I did this past weekend while stuck on call. Seems my call weekends I get quite a few projects started or finished. I just need to finish the waistcoat I cut out now.
