    Finished MacLachlan kilt

So I asked for pleating advice in this thread. I finished the kilt tonight following the advice for the pleating with the flash of red (thanks again for bringing that up, guys!)

This one's hands-down the best one I've made so far. It's also the first one I've made from 16oz material from Lochcarron, and now I'm seeing what all the fuss is about- easily my favorite material to work with so far.

Anywho, I'm very pleased with the results.

Chasem , like it a lot ! Well done , like the red reveal . Wish I was talented enough to make my own kilt .

Looks like you did a great job at pleating , the red reveal shows up all across the back of the kilt up by simply raising a leg ... let alone the effect it will have while walking ... i.e. swish . Sweet !

    Cheers , Mike

splendid job. Well done. I'm getting ready to start my first at Kilt Kamp in a little under a month, and I can hope it turns out half as nice.

Thanks, fellas. I really enjoyed watching this one come together. Helps that it's the first one in "my" tartan.

I had no skill with a needle before the first one I made; I'd bet you could handle it with a little practice.

As for the reveal - I was nervous about that. Once I hit the 7th or 8th pleat I started to wonder whether I was putting the red too close to the edge of the pleat (it was just barely hidden by the pleat on top), but I think it turned out well as it doesn't show at all when standing still.

It's hard to tell in this lighting and with this pleating, but there's an equal amount of dark blue and black in those large blocks of the tartan (think your son's kilt in darker colors). They're almost indistinguishable in interior lighting, and since this one's pleating to the black, it's very black-heavy.

Yes! I should have mentioned that in the original post. This is somewhere in the neighborhood of #10 for me (that is, 10 that I've made, not 10 that I own), all following TAoK and its box pleat supplement.
